This week, our Reception class had a very special visitor from Year 6, Sulayman, who came to teach them all about the Islamic celebration of Eid! Sulayman shared his experiences of this joyful holiday, which centers around family, food, and coming together to celebrate—much like Christmas! He explained that, just as Christmas is a special time for many families to gather, Eid is a time when Muslim families and friends come together to share a meal, give thanks, and enjoy each other's company.

During his visit, Sulayman showed the children a variety of Islamic artifacts, helping them understand more about Muslim traditions and culture. From taqiyahs to prayer mats, each object helped the children develop a deeper appreciation for the way people celebrate their beliefs. We were also joined by one of our school’s Muslim staff members, who showed the children how to wear a hijab, giving them a hands-on experience of another part of Islamic culture.

The session was an important part of our school’s efforts to encourage understanding and respect for all backgrounds. The Reception children learned that people celebrate in different ways and have unique traditions, yet these special times are all about love, sharing, and coming together with those we care about. Not only this but we couldn't be more thankful to have such a knowledgeable, kind and patient ambassador as Sulayman in our school.
