Yesterday, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoyed a fantastic school trip to Liverpool! As part of their history topic on transport past and present, the children visited the Museum of Liverpool, where they explored a wide range of vehicles from different time periods. One of the highlights was seeing the impressive steam locomotive ‘Lion’, built in 1838. They also got to experience what it would have been like travelling on the Liverpool Overhead Railway, constructed in 1893 to reduce congestion along the city’s docks. It was a brilliant workshop that brought their classroom learning to life! We then headed to Pier Head and enjoyed a ferry ride across the Mersey. It was a joy to see the children’s reactions as they spotted the enormous cruise and cargo ships - many were amazed at their size and excitedly guessed where in the world they might be heading. They also enjoyed looking at the Liverpool skyline pointing out human and physical features, learnt in Geography.
It truly was a fantastic day, and the children were a real credit to Gillibrand. They represented our school with pride, and several adults at the Museum and on the ferry commented on how polite and well-mannered they were. It was a magical experience for the children and staff and a brilliant opportunity to create lasting memories together.
