To launch our exciting new English unit, Year 3 stepped into the shoes of inventors to bring a literary giant to life. Inspired by the opening chapters of Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man, the children used a combination of reclaimed cardboard and shimmering tinfoil to engineer their very own iron giants. There was a fantastic buzz in the classroom as they crimped, folded, and sculpted, focusing on how to represent the Iron Man’s massive, mechanical joints and his "headshaped like a dustbin." These gleaming figures now stand guard in our classroom, ready to inspire some truly "monstrous" creative writing as we dive deeper into this classic tale of mystery and friendship.
