Today, Year 4 took part in an exciting river workshop to learn all about the features of the River Yarrow. Pupils had the opportunity to collect invertebrates from the water to investigate how healthy the river is. By identifying each invertebrate using a key they were able to establish what the river had the most of.

When they got back into school they used a special river table to explore how flooding and erosion can affect the river’s shape and flow. The children also discovered how planting trees along the riverbanks can help to slow down erosion and reduce the risk of flooding. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that helped everyone understand the importance of protecting our local environment.

Well done Year 4.
