This week, our Reception children had an exciting, hands-on lesson all about the five senses - sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing! The classroom was full of curiosity and laughter as the children took part in a range of fun and engaging activities designed to help them discover how their senses work.
To explore the sense of taste, pupils were brave enough to try a selection of foods, lemons for sour, popcorn for salty, and cereal for sweet. There were lots of funny faces pulled when the lemons were tasted, but plenty of smiles too!
Next, the children tested their sense of smell with a blind smell test. They took turns guessing mystery scents, from fruity to flowery, using only their noses. Some were easier to identify than others! For touch, there were a series of feely boxes filled with different textures to explore. Little hands reached inside to feel soft, rough, smooth, and squishy materials and then guessed what each object might be.
The what can you hear challenge encouraged everyone to use their ears carefully. From jingling keys to rustling paper, the children listened closely to identify each sound. Finally, at the what can you spot station, Reception put their sight to the test, spotting hidden items and colourful objects around the classroom.
It was a wonderful day of learning through play, and the children did a fantastic job using all five of their senses. Well done, Reception — you really sensed your way to success!
